MARITIME LEAGUE OF LEGENDS SET TO OPEN SEASON SUNDAY

After a long winter, the cars and stars of the Maritime League of Legends Tour (MLOLT) are set to fire up their engines once again on Sunday, May 20th at Scotia Speedworld. The 50-lap feature for the popular Legends Tour, which is a part of the CARQUEST 100 weekend, will serve as Round One of Seven on the series that will see competition at four different venues in 2012. Matt Moore of Falmouth was the winner of the season opener at Scotia Speedworld last May.

The field is led into competition Sunday by 2011 Maritime League of Legends Tour champion Dylan Blenkhorn of Truro, Nova Scotia. Blenkhorn is the most recent race winner on the Tour as well after taking the checkered flag first in the ’11 Season Finale at Atlantic Motorsports Park this past October. The last time the Tour was at the Speedworld, it was Ottawa, Ontario’s Chad Windsor who took the victory last September. Windsor, who put together a string of podiums at the end of the season in an effort to unseat Blenkhorn from the top spot in the standings, will be back full-time in 2012 as the driver of the #61 MacLean Motorsports Legend car on the Tour.

(Halifax, NS, May 17, 2012) The Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour is kicking off a new season on Sunday at the CARQUEST 100!  Scotia Speedworld, located just outside of Halifax, will host the Season Opener. Over 30 teams from across the Maritimes have registered for the 2012 season and event organizers are expecting an exceptional field for Sunday’s festivities, including special guest, Cassius Clark of Farmington, ME.  Advance tickets for the CARQUEST 100 are on sale now at Ticket Atlantic and will also be available at the gate on race day. Grandstands at Scotia Speedworld open at 1:00 pm; Atlantic Tiltload Time Trials will get underway at 3:10 pm with racing slated for 4:00 pm. Weather permitting fans will also be invited onto the track for an autograph session with the drivers of the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour.

It’s going to be a great season for the popular stock car touring series and their fans. 2012 will see the return of all five past champions of the series, who hold 12 Pro Stock Tour championships between them. John Flemming (Halifax, NS) who took the title three times in 2002, 2003, and 2006. Shawn Tucker (Fredericton, NB) who took the crown in 2004, 2007 and 2010. 2005 champ Rollie MacDonald (Pictou, NS), 2009 champion Shawn Turple (Enfield, NS) and three-time and current series champion Wayne Smith (Timberlea, NS). All but Smith, who plans on running a limited schedule, will vie for another title this season.

An open practice for all divisions will be held at Petty International Raceway on Saturday, May 12th from Noon to 6pm. Pit admission is $10 while grandstand admission is free of charge. The season officially opens at Petty International Raceway on Saturday, May 19th when the GT Enterprises Sportsman Division welcomes in the new year with a 150-lap event.
